The mission of the Midwest New Church is to nurture and strengthen our New Church Christian life and faith. We strive to live usefully — within our families, our congregation, and our communities — as we grow spiritually and emotionally, both as individuals and as a united body. Our growth is rooted in our belief in the Lord God Jesus Christ, His Word, His Heavenly Doctrine, and in the sacred and eternal holiness of marriage between one man and one woman, “the precious jewel of human life.”
We are dedicated to sharing the truth that the Lord’s Second Coming has occurred and that He now reveals Himself in the inner meaning of His Word, as He foretold in Matthew 24:30. Through this revelation, we seek to inspire all people to live the life of heaven by following the Lord’s commandments in His Word and the teachings of His Heavenly Doctrine.
Statement of Beliefs
The Lord from eternity, who is Jehovah, came into the world to subjugate the hells and to glorify His Human; and without this no mortal could have been saved; and those are saved who believe in Him. (True Christian Religion 2)
God is one, in whom is a Divine trinity, and the Lord God the Savior Jesus Christ is that one. (True Christian Religion 3)
The Heavenly Doctrine of the New Jerusalem is the Second Coming of the Lord as predicted in Daniel 7 and Revelation 21. (True Christian Religion Title page)
This second coming of the Lord is effected by means of a man to whom the Lord has manifested Himself in person, and whom He has filled with His spirit, that he may teach the doctrines of the new church from the Lord by means of the Word. (True Christian Religion 779) The chosen scribe for this task was Emmanuel Swedenborg.
The Second coming of the Lord is a revelation of the internal sense of the Word. (see Apocalypse Explained 641)
This New Church is the crown of all the churches that have hitherto existed on the earth, because it is to worship one visible God in whom is the invisible like the soul in the body. (True Christian Religion 787)
Marriage is a sacred institution established by the Lord and is intended to last forever. The conjugial union of one man with one wife is the precious jewel of human life and the repository of Christian religion. Marriage is only possible between one man and one woman. (see Conjugial Love 457 and Arcana Coelestia 1907)
Repentance is necessary to go to heaven and is one of the most important uses of the Church. (see True Christian Religion 510)
Faith and Charity go together and neither one by themselves is enough to go to heaven. (See True Christian Religion 355)
A true life of faith and charity consists in believing rightly and living rightly. When we keep the ten Commandments and perform our jobs honestly, justly and faithfully, we are living the life of faith and charity. (see True Christian Religion 340 and 373)
In summary, we believe that the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Heavenly Doctrine are Divine Revelation from the Lord Himself and how He speaks to us. As a Church we are to regulate our conduct by the teachings in them as the authority in our lives.
